This is the time of the year when there’s so much to be excited about. There’s a festival or something to be celebrated around every corner. Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, you can’t get away from the excitement that this time of the year brings – especially if you’re a teacher or a parent.
Don’t worry! I get that it’s stressful as well, but when you see your kids bursting with energy, it’s hard not to get swept up in the moment, isn’t it?
During this month, your schedule is going to be interrupted multiple times a day with parents wanting to talk to you, kids going on vacation or getting sick, school plays and field trips.
Your kids are also going to have a difficult time focusing so it’s not going to be easy to do much in the way of teaching them the curriculum.
Actionable Steps:
#1. Project Based Learning
The following activity will engage kids in learning. They can work on writing, creating, art and so much more. It will really develop their confidence in innovating, discussing, and presenting. They will enjoy laughing over some of their work because they can be as serious or as goofy as they want because this project allows them to delve deeply into their imagination. This will feel more like having fun than learning even though they are developing academic and life skills.
Children can work at their own pace. If there’s interruptions, you can pause and revisit it when you have time to come back to this activity.
If you have children with a lot of learning or emotional needs, this will build their sense of confidence as they create and innovate. Adapt it to meet their needs.
The beauty of this project is that you can focus on writing report cards, cleaning up, and unwinding because there’s no prep required on your part. You need to print it out and put it in each child’s folder. Depending on the age group and their background in project based learning, you may need to do some teaching up front and then facilitating. Don’t worry though as there’s a quick guide to support you through this.
