Mother’s Day is a special day. It’s not just for biological mothers but for of the wonderful women in a child’s life who have a hand in raising that child. It’s a day for a child to celebrate all of them. The following activities will take that into consideration.

A great way to start these activities is to teach this concept to your children and have them list out all of the special women in their life. Then have them circle all of the women on their list for whom they want to make gifts. Of course, if the expense falls on you, then you can’t possibly buy items for everyone. So, have your child choose one person for the gift and they can work on step #2 for the rest of the names on the list. This way, you’re saved from breaking the bank and no one is forgotten.

The activities listed are great for classroom management, physical education, daily physical activity, language arts – writing, health and art. If you incorporate step #3, this can be included into the communication component of your lesson.

Actionable Steps:

#1. A Mother’s Gift in Nature

As Mother’s Day is during spring, go outside and have children pick some flowers. They can put them into a small vase that they decorate in advance. This will make a beautiful and inexpensive gift for your students’ mothers. It also incorporates some outdoor education, which helps with classroom management as you can get children to release some of their pent-up energy by moving about outdoors, followed by completing a creative task.

This activity can be paired up nicely with the following one to make a lovely gift for students to take home on Mother’s Day.

#2. The Words of Love for a Mother

Download and print these Mother’s Day Cards. on cardstock. Have your children answer the questions or enjoy drawing and coloring about their mother-figure either individually or in small groups. The cards are for all of the different women in your child’s life, so it’s important to teach the lesson in the introduction ahead of time.

#3. Presentation of Mother’s Dy Gifts

Remind your children when to give their gifts to their mother figures and what to say when gifting them. Have them practice with a partner so that they can get out all of the kinks and show their mother figures the love they have and feel for them.
