Happy 2019!!!!
I have been quiet for the past while, not because I don’t love you, but because I have been really busy learning more about how to be a better educator. I love teaching and am continuing to do this during the day, but in the evenings, I have been attending university as I am working toward a Master’s Degree. My goal last year was to apply to start a Master’s Degree and I systematically worked toward getting into the program. I truly did not realize how much work it entailed but I am loving every minute of it. Anyway, this has kept me pretty busy as I have been soaking up as much as I can and implementing my learning into my classroom.
I finally have a moment to rest and wanted to stop by and say MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! I know it was yesterday, but I LOVE Christmas too much to give up on the opportunity to wish you and your family a beautiful Christmas season. I hope you take the time to recharge and enjoy the upcoming New Year.
Looking ahead, there is so much that I want to accomplish, but I am already starting to feel overwhelmed. In fact, I started feeling like during the week before Christmas. This being my favorite season, I decided to take a step back and examine the situation. I created three goals for myself that lifted my spirits immediately, which I will get to in a moment.
At some point within the next couple of weeks, you will be asked about your New Year’s Resolution. For some people, this is a really simple task, whereas, for others, like me, this can be fairly daunting. However, over the past few years, I have come to realize that by the end of the year, even though I love what I do (this may not be the case for everyone and that’s okay), I still feel rather exhausted. I NEED rest.
My resolution is to look after myself. How that looks differs from year to year but the goal is the same.
This year, I have come up with three actionable steps that I guarantee will help bring both you and me some peace and joy.
1. Build and Maintain Connections!
Make a list of the loved ones who you want to have a deeper connection with. I recommend keeping this list to 5 people to start with or it ends up being too difficult to manage. You can always add to it once you feel a deeper connection to the ones who are currently on your list.
Then, call or text them to schedule some time to visit with them. If you enjoy parties, host one and make it a priority to talk to each of them.
2. Spoil Yourself!
I do not mean, splurge on yourself. Please look at your budget and work within it. Whether you have a small or a large budget, you need to make time for yourself to recharge. Personally, I love reading a good mystery novel (buy one at a book store, online, used bookstore or borrow one from the library) with a warm cup of tea (I cannot get enough of Orange Pekoe and Creamy Earl Grey). There are days when I enjoy watching a movie with some Eggnog. For some, shopping therapy is the way to go. For others, indulging in a hobby or getting your nails done (I prefer doing my own) makes them happy.
You don’t need to spend hours on this, but even making five to fifteen minutes a day to enjoy some “me” will help keep your sanity at bay.
3. Clean It!
While I enjoy cleaning, this can be a chore for some people. Set aside half an hour a day to clean a space that you spend a great deal of time in. I say this because once you declutter that space by even the slightest bit, your body and inner self will know and will be so much happier and more productive there.
So you don’t get stuck looking over everything little thing and going down memory lane, I suggest cleaning with someone. If you cannot do it, turn on some light music and break out some bubbly.
Enjoy the feeling of either recycling or donating your items to those who need it more than you do.
Where am I at with these goals?
I decided not to wait until January 1st and started it a bit early.
1. I made it a point to connect with my co-workers last Wednesday night (we went for dinner) and on Friday night (I attended a Christmas party). On Saturday, I spent some time with my husband and then went to see a good friend who I have not seen since last year (we will be meeting again soon). On Sunday afternoon, I had lunch with a friend from high school that I text but only get to see on a yearly basis, and in the night, I attended my sister’s Christmas Eve party (I don’t get to see her often) and on Sunday, I connected with my family, my husband’s family and sister’s future in-laws. I am currently trying to find time to meet up with two other friends.
2. I have been enjoying some podcasts, sleeping in, baking and today I indulged in some shopping therapy (there was a boot sale today and my old boots are so worn out). I am hoping to spend more time on singing next week.
3. I did some cleaning yesterday as I did not want gift wrappers lying around but I need to fold quite a bit of laundry next week and donate some of my clothes.S
Detailed Planning
Beyond this, I really enjoy detailed planning as well. I enjoy planning out the year ahead of me. This is essential because I love Colourful Teaching For You and want to keep it going. I am also a teacher, student, friend and a family member. There is so much going on in my life and I would be lost if I did not make planning a priority. To help with my planning process, I created Your Most Colourful Life Planner. I love it because not only can I plan my year, but I can also manage my social media and so much more.
As an educator, I am a big fan of using this Lesson Planning Template. There is also one for those who Homeschool their children.
I pair all of these with Gratitude Journals. There is one for preschool and kindergarten students, for primary students, for intermediate students, and for secondary students and adults. This is a great way to add a positive spin to your planning process. When we add positive energy to our lives, we can expect to see positivity surround us.
While I will create more bundles in the future, I created one for now. Please see the following.
For now, please enjoy choosing ones that best suit your needs.
Thank you for your continued support and love. I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year!
