How to Engage Kids in Learning During Spring Break - Colourful Teaching For You
How to Engage Kids in Learning During Spring Break

Spring is such an exciting time because the weather gets warmer and children generally want to go out to play.

I won’t lie to you. Since it’s Spring Break, your kids are done with learning and working as they’re looking forward to having two weeks off to rest and have fun on their own terms.

It means that unless you have some firm routines in place, you may have a difficult time at home. We need to find activities to engage your kids and keep them learning.

During this time, most parents are exhausted and are just trying to keep up.

I love spending time with my sons but it can be a bit much at times. What about you? Do you feel the same way?

It’s important to maintain structure though, so that you can maintain your sanity.

The following activities will show you how to engage kids in learning during Spring Break with minimal effort on your part.

Actionable Steps:

#1. Go on a Field Trip

Visit the aquarium, Science World, the planetarium, a petting zoo or another place where your children can learn and have fun. If these are pricy activities, go out for a hike and enjoy nature while giving them some space to release their pent-up energy.

#2. Engage in Literacy

Give your children the opportunity to write about the seasons. Let them have some time to reflect on it and to develop their writing skills while you enjoy a moment to yourself.

You can do it with the following resources. These are NO PREP and print-and-go resources.

You can also save money with the following bundles:

#3. Cook Together

It can be a lot of work to cook with young ones but it can also be a great way to bond together. Cooking and sharing a meal can bring families together.

This can be educational when you talk about what ingredients you’ll mix and how you’ll do it. You’ll be teaching them math, communication and a valuable life skill.

#4. Create Art

Buy or make some playdough and then have them create works of art with it. You can also just take a piece of paper and some markers and have your children draw something they see in nature or whatever is in their imagination.

A great way to take this a bit further is to have a discussion about what they created. Most children will enjoy talking about their work and will gush about it if they’re happy and proud of it. Remember to praise them for it.
