Today we’re going to talk about how creativity and innovation can help students become better learners.
Our classes are comprised of a variety of students with so many different learning needs.
From writing, to building, to presenting, children are required to use their creativity and innovation skills. When you integrate them into your lessons it helps your students come better learners.
You can foster this kind of environment by:
- Encouraging children to ask questions
- Introducing famous innovators
- Teach children to collaborate with one another
- Engage in project basted learning with resources such as the following:
The next section will examine why it’s important to develop creativity and innovation. The items resources above will cover all of the following reasons.
Actionable Steps:
#1. Develops Critical Thinking Skills
In order to create and innovate, your children will need to first assess and sift through all of the information that they find. They can’t possibly use everything so they’ll need to look at what can be used and what can’t be used in their presentation. If they build, there will likely be some trial and error in which they’ll have to look at what’s working and what’s not so that they can put together a project that they love.
#2. Enables Expression Freedom
Given the parameters of the lesson, students will and should be given the freedom to express what they’ve learned in ways that work best for them. Perhaps they can create something or present it in a fun way. Whatever method they choose, when children are given this freedom, it excites them even more.
#3. Captivates Interests
This form of learning allows children to integrate what they’re interested in so that they are captivated by the material that they’re learning. This also develops their ability to focus because they’re excited to learn and then create materials to showcase it using what they’re interested in.
#4. Enhances Communication Skills
In order to truly express their learning, children need to pre-plan the projects. This is one form of communication. They will then need to put it together and show it to either you or their classmates making these additional forms of learning. If they present it to the class, it develops their presentation skills as well.
